Securing your device using a Comm key

You can use the Comm Key functionality on a TM time attendance device to further secure the network connection between your TM time attendance device and the TimeMoto PC (Plus) Software. In this article, we will explain how to set up a Comm Key in a TM device and in your TimeMoto PC (Plus) Software.

Important: The Comm Key only secures the network connection between a TM device and the TimeMoto PC (Plus) Software. The Comm Key is not used to secure the network connection between the TM device and the TimeMoto Cloud, as that connection is already secured through other means.

Setting a Comm Key on the TM device

1. Press the [Menu]-button on your device to open the menu.
2. Select [System Settings] > [Connection] > [PC Connection].
3. There, select [Comm Key] and press [OK].
4. You can now enter a numerical key you want to use as a Comm Key. Confirm the key by pressing [OK].
5. Press [ESC] multiple times to leave the device’s menu.

You now have set up a Comm Key on your TM device. For the TM device to properly connect to the TimeMoto PC (Plus) Software, we will now need to also enter the same Comm Key in the TimeMoto PC (Plus) Software.

Entering the Comm Key in the TimeMoto PC (Plus) Software

Once you have set up the Comm Key in the TM device, you will have to enter the same Comm Key in the TimeMoto PC (Plus) Software for the TM device to connect to the software.

1. Open the TimeMoto PC (Plus) Software. 
2. Select [Edit] > [Device]
3. Select the TM device you have assigned the Comm Key to. Double-click the device. A window will appear. 
4. In the window, enter the Comm Key under “Communication Key”. This must be the same key you have entered on the TM device.
5. Click [OK].

The network connection between the TM device and the TimeMoto PC (Plus) Software is now secured with the Comm Key.
